Group walking through remote British moorland in overcast conditions

Our Story

Twenty years in conflict zones. Two bestselling books. A return to military service. This is where SWC comes from.

Peter Apps spent over two decades as a foreign correspondent for Reuters, reporting from more than 20 countries — conflict zones, emerging markets, crises. He covered the rise of China from farmer's fields in southern Africa. He reported on the return of great power rivalry before most people saw it coming. He was, by his own account, exactly where he wanted to be: in the places where interesting and dangerous things were happening.

Across two decades of covering conflict — from Sri Lanka to the Middle East to southern Africa — Peter kept returning to the same question: why do some people hold under extreme pressure while others don't? The answer, he found, wasn't character or luck. It was skills — learnable, trainable, testable skills. That question became the foundation of everything SWC delivers.

Salt Water Crocodiles

"Resilience isn't a character trait. It's a set of skills — and like any skill, it can be taught, practised, and refined under pressure."

The year after Russia annexed Crimea, the British Army asked Peter to return to its reserve to provide training and development in information warfare. He is a serving British Army Reservist who trains alongside the people SWC works with. He has published two critically acclaimed books — Deterring Armageddon: A Biography of NATO and The Next World War, which became the bestselling UK military history audiobook on Audible within days of launch. He hosts the British Army CHACR podcast Facing Coming Storms.

Salt Water Crocodiles grew from that work — from the field into structured training for military personnel, corporate leadership teams, and individuals who need to operate effectively when the environment turns hostile. Today, SWC works with MOD-credible organisations, FTSE-level corporations, and high-performers who demand training forged in the same environments they operate in. Not theory. Not simulation. Reality.

What We Stand For

Tested, Not Theoretical

Every method we teach has been used in the field. If it hasn't worked under real pressure, it doesn't make it into the programme.

Quiet Authority

We don't perform credentials. Peter's story, his books, his military service — they speak on their own. So does the training.

Adaptability

The most resilient people aren't the toughest. They're the most adaptable. We train the capacity to function when the plan, the environment, and the assumptions all change at once.

Integrity Under Pressure

Anyone can hold their values when conditions are easy. The real test is whether they hold when everything is against you. That's what we train for.
